God asks us to trust him
Trusting God is all about relationship
“The power of prayer is relational and not transactional.” Pete Greig
Trusting God honours him
“The power of prayer depends almost entirely upon our apprehension of who it is with whom we speak.” Andrew Murry
Our relationship of trusting God is more important than our comfort
Jeremiah 17:7 Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord And whose trust is the Lord.
We trust him to provide AND we trust that he is good
Hyper-Charismatics
James 4:3 And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all

Cessationists
James 4:2 you don’t have because you don’t ask God for it

Neither extreme is good at listening to God
John 10:14-16 I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me, just as my Father knows me and I know the Father… They will listen to my voice
John 5:19-20 So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he is doing. In fact, the Father will show him how to do even greater works than healing this man.
Romans 8:14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the (a) word of Christ.
God pays attention to each prayer
1 Peter 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer
1 John 5:14-15 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
If I pray, he promises to be attentive
If I pray in his will and leading he will say yes
Romans 10:9, 13 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved… Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
God promises to be attentive to every prayer
God promises to save anyone who asks
God promises faithful, love for his children
Romans 8:38-39 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
2 Timothy 2:13 If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is.
God promises to be attentive to every prayer
God promises to save anyone who asks
God promises faithful, love for his children
