Take Home Truths – Romans 8:1-4
How can we live the Christian life?
Someone has to pay. Someone has to be held accountable.
Justice, that sense of someone’s got to pay
Romans 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation
Romans 1 God is awesome and we see it through creation
Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
Romans 2-3 We are not awesome no matter our background, we mess up
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Romans 4-5 God showed us his love for us, while we were still a mess God took the initiative and sent Jesus to pay the justice we all deserve
Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us
Romans 5:1-2 We have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.
Romans 6 Cost of sin is serious, but God’s gift covers it all
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
If you try and earn it by being nice – you insult the gift and the giver
How can we live the Christian life?
Romans 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus
Living the Christian life starts with the attitude of receiving acceptance/love
God’s Grace
It’s a mind-blowing concept that the God who created the universe might be looking for company, a real relationship with people, but the thing that keeps me on my knees is the difference between Grace and Karam. – Bono
You see at the center of all religions is the idea of Karma. You know, what you put out comes back to you; an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. And yet along comes the idea called Grace to upend all that. – Bono
Grace defies reason and logic. Love interrupts if you like the consequences of your actions which in my case is very good news indeed, because I’ve done a lot of stupid stuff. I’d be in trouble if Karma was going to finally be my judge. I’m holding out for Grace. I’m holding out that Jesus took my sins onto the Cross. Bono
Now I live a life of goodness flowing from Gratitude, not Guilt
NOW
Romans 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus
In Jesus you are no longer condemned
