Spiritual Gifts | Cultivating Fire Part 3

Spiritual Gifts | Cultivating Fire Part 3

Romans 8:11 the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you

Acts 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

Be aware

Luke 10:21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.

Spirit of God, give me the desire and power to do what pleases you.

Spirit of God what would you have me think?

The Spirit brings gifts

1 Corinthians 12:7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

Spiritual gifts are not natural abilities

Each gift is supernatural

You don’t get them all

1 Corinthians 12:29-30 Are we all apostles? Are we all prophets? Are we all teachers? Do we all have the power to do miracles? Do we all have the gift of healing? Do we all have the ability to speak in unknown languages? Do we all have the ability to interpret unknown languages? Of course not!

The Body

Common good

The Spirit chooses what gift you receive

1 Corinthians 12:11,18 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines… But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be

We are responsible for their use

Gift = Desire, Power and Results

1 Thessalonians 5:19-21 Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good

Old Testament prophets had an amazing responsibility – they were able to speak and write words that had absolute divine authority…. In the New Testament there were also people who spoke and wrote God’s very words and had them recorded as Scripture, but we may be surprised to find that Jesus no longer calls them ‘prophets’’ but uses a new term, ‘Apostles’

1 Corinthians 14:3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.

Should we expect healing?

Matthew 8:16-17 healed all who were sick.

John 5:4-6 a multitude of blind, lame, and paralyzed.  One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.

Psalm 103:2-3 forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases

Mark 1:37-38 when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!” Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”

Luke 5:17 On one of those days, as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with him to heal

Luke 10:20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.
