Koinonia – Part 4

We belong to each other so the world will know

Servant leadership is serving Jesus

Hebrews 10:23-25 Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

Encouraging/Building Up is powerful group glue

Phil. 2:1-4 Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

Use your words

Eph. 4:29-30 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Gossip is spreading negative reports when not a part of problem/solution

Slander is telling the truth with the design to hurt

Proverbs 16:28 A perverse person stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends.

Protect Koinonia with your words

1 Cor. 14:12 Since you are so eager to have the special abilities the Spirit gives, seek those that will strengthen the whole church.

1 Cor. 14:3 But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them.

Prophetic Words: strengthen, encourage, comforts

1 Thess. 5:19-22 Do not stifle the Holy Spirit. Do not scoff at prophecies, but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. Stay away from every kind of evil.

Koinonia is a greenhouse of encouraging words
