Holy over Hustle – God’s Truth
Cultural Fatigue
Change leads to stress. Continual stress leads to exhaustion.
We have been immersed in change.
Hustle in our Heads
I was created to be with God
John 14:23,26, 27 Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them… When the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
Faith is a glorious opportunity to walk with God.
How do we choose Holy over Hustle?
It all starts with belief
Attitudes, emotions and behaviours are followers, not the leaders (Dr. Alicia Britt Chole).
Our beliefs lead our hearts
God-concepts inform beliefs, and beliefs influence attitudes emotions and behaviours (Dr. Alicia Britt Chole).
What we truly believe about God matters
What are beliefs that lay at the core of our God relationship?
God loves me
Romans 5:5-8 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
We cannot trust God in full if we believe He only loves us in part (Dr. Alicia Britt Chole).
“God you love me”
God is here with me
Psalm 139:7 I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!
Revoke the authority we have given our feelings to tell us whether or not God is in the room (Dr. Alicia Britt Chole).
“God you love me, You are here with me.”
God’s love is secure
Romans 8:38-39 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Heb. 13:5 I will never fail you. I will never abandon you. (In context of money)
2 Tim. 2:13 If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is.
“God you love me, you are here with me, you will never leave me.”
Romans 8:5-6 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace
Cultivating a moment by moment intimacy with God moves from being nice to necessary
Spiritually detox our minds
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Attending to God’s love is no blissful fallout of sensationalism but the cultivated fruit of intentionality (Dr. Alicia Britt Chole).
Don’t let your mind think about anything you haven’t prayed for
Pray first… always
