Comparison vs Contentment | Financial Peace Part 1

Comparison vs Contentment | Financial Peace Part 1

Isaiah 53:4-5 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

Matthew 6:28-33 And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.  Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Your financial worries are robbing God of first place, and robbing you of shalom

Matthew 6:20-24 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

What you look at is what you desire

The length of your gaze measures your desire

Enjoy God and his good gifts

Philippians 4:11-13 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to get along happily whether I have much or little. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of contentment in every situation, whether it be a full stomach or hunger, plenty or want; for I can do everything God asks me to with the help of Christ who gives me the strength and power.

Psalm 37:3-4 Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

1 Timothy 6:7 Their pride and trust should be in the living God who always richly gives  us all we need for our enjoyment.

Our enjoyment of God and his good gifts immunizes us against dark eyes

Contentment: Realizing that God has provided everything I need for my present happiness.

There is no finish line with Comparison

Ecclesiastes 4:4-5 And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind

Enjoy God and his good gifts

I am a child of the king

My Heavenly Father cares for me

I only need to do what he asks of me

What is one thing you can give to God?
