Anticipation: Joy

Luke 2:1 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.

Micah 5:2 But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old

Isaiah 9:1-3 in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan The people walking in darkness have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.

Adventis, to prepare for the coming of a great person 

Hope is found in Jesus the promise keeper 

Peace is found in our gift exchange with Jesus 

Joy

The fruit of the Spirit is Love, Joy, Peace – Galatians 5:22 

God is a joyful person 

God is joyful 

Psalm 16:11 You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.

Joy is more about a Who than a What 

Joy is a by-product. Its very existence presupposes that you desire not it, but something other and outer. C.S. Lewis

1 Peter 1:8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy 

Experience the Adventure – of knowing God 

Joy is found in the presence of God 

Luke 1:42-45 Elizabeth gave a glad cry and exclaimed to Mary, “God has blessed you above all women, and your child is blessed. Why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should visit me? When I heard your greeting, the baby in my womb jumped for joy. You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.”

The secret to having more love – or peace or joy or faith or any fruit of the Spirit is enjoying God more. Mike Bickel 

If we make joy about a What, it will eventually become empty 

Isaiah 55:1-2 Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare.

Peel back the temporal to see the eternal 

Joy is a focus before it’s a feeling

Father you are inviting me into the joy of eternal adventures every day. 

Give me eyes to see.
