Abide – Part 3

Hosea 7:14 They do not cry out to me from their hearts, but wail upon their beds. They gather together for grain and new wine but turn away from me.

Abide: To be attentive, to be present with God

Abiding brings…
Soul nourishment
Fellowship with God
Power over sin
Growth in Godly character

Any Time: Practicing the presence of Christ

We want to be so close to Jesus that it makes the devil too nervous to follow

“The number one reason why people don’t hear God is because their heart is not quiet.” Ray Deurkson

Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God.

Psalm 37:7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

Psalm 131:2 But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me.

Psalm 62:1 For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation.

Ps. 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Anxiety leads me away from being led – because my heart can’t hear

What connects us to Jesus?

Philippians 4:6-9 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving

Unceasing connection to Jesus

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus

Hebrews 13:15 Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name

Connection to Jesus in the Gathering

Ephesians 5:19-20 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God

Connection to Jesus for other people

Ephesians 1:16 Do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers

Philippians 1:3-6 I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now

All through Scripture there is a connection between the words Continual/Prayer with Thankfulness/Praise

Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You

Psalm 100:4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!
